KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara in focus as we look at the weekly cricket news round-up for August 7-13, 2022 by Cric8fanatic. 

Hey Guys, welcome to the brand new series for the weekly Cricket news round-up by Cric8fanatic. The objective is to cover all important, fresh, Credible and relatable news from the Indian Cricketing world to keep you up to date. 

The week from August 6-13 was purely focused on Indian cricket. Some of the major official announcements made focused on the Asia Cup 2022 and the Zimbabwe tour. In addition, the buzz was around India Maharajas, Arjun Tendulkar,  and Women’s IPL.  

So, here are all the Important updates for week 2 of August 2022.

#1: Asia Cup 2022 Official Squad for Team India Announced 

BCCI on Monday officially announced the 15-member squad for Team India. Rohit Sharma has been named as the Captain. Whereas KL Rahul shall be his deputy. Harshal Patel and Jasprit Bumrah are left out because of injury. Meanwhile, Deepak Chahar,  Shreyas Iyer, and Axar Patel are named standbys.

Team India’s Squad for Asia Cup 2022: Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul (VC),  Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik (WK) Rishabh Pant (WK), Deepak Hooda, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravi Bishnoi & Yuzvendra Chahal

#2: Arjun Tendulkar to Play for Goa in 2022-23 Ranji Season 

Legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s son, Arjun Tendulkar has decided to play for Goa in the 2022-23 Domestic season. Arjun has already obtained the NOC from Mumbai Cricket Association. The move will benefit Arjun Tendulkar as he will be getting more game time with Goa, unlike Mumbai where he mostly warmed the bench.

#3: Fit KL Rahul Added to Zimbabwe ODI Series Squad

BCCI on Thursday gave an update on KL Rahul’s fitness. Having cleared the fitness,  he was added to the ODI series squad for the Zimbabwe tour. The decision was taken for giving good match practice to KL Rahul ahead of Asia Cup 2022. What’s more, KL Rahul also replaces Shikhar Dhawan as the captain of the squad.

#4: VVS Laxman Replaces Rahul Dravid as Coach for Zimbabwe Tour

BCCI officially announced that VVS Laxman shall lead the coaching staff for the Zimbabwe tour instead of Rahul Dravid. It is understood that Rahul Dravid won’t travel to Zimbabwe as there is a very less gap between the Zimbabwe tour and Asia Cup 2022.

#5: Sourav Ganguly to lead India Maharajas 

India Maharajas to play World Giants to mark India’s 75th Independence day.  The India Maharajas squad shall be led by Sourav Ganguly. Whereas the World Giants squad shall be led by Eoin Morgan. Meanwhile, the squad include the likes of Virender Sehwag, Sreesanth, Muralitharan, Steyn, Kallis, etc. 

India Maharajas: Sourav Ganguly (C), Virender Sehwag, Mohammad Kaif, Yusuf Pathan, S Badrinath, Irfan Pathan, Parthiv Patel (WK), Stuart Binny, Sreesanth, Harbhajan Singh, Naman Ojha (WK), Ashok Dinda, Pragyan Ojha, Ajay Jadeja, RP Singh, Joginder Sharma & Reetinder Singh Sodhi

World Giants: Eoin Morgan (C), Lendl Simmons, Jacques Kallis, Sanath Jayasuriya, Matt Prior (WK), Nathan McCullum, Jonty Rhodes, Muthiah Muralidaran, Dale Steyn, Hamilton Masakadza, Mashrafe Mortaza, Asghar Afghan, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Kevin Obrien & Denesh Ramdin (WK)

#6: Women’s IPL to Kick-start from March 2023 

In the form of a boost to Women’s cricket,  Sourav Ganguly made a big announcement. The President of BCCI has hinted at Match 2023 window to kick-start women’s IPL. Undoubtedly, this would change the fate of women’s cricket with a lot of opportunities for the Indian Women players. 

#7: Cheteshwar Pujara Smashes 22 Runs in an Over: 

In a never seen before incident, Team India’s Test match specialist, Pujara smashed 22 runs off Liam Norwell’s over in the 45th over of the match vs Warwickshire. He smashed 4, 2, 4, 2, 6, 4 in the six balls he faced against Norwell. Pujara is known to play defensive cricket, but seeing him play an aggressive brand of cricket is a delight to watch.
