IPL 2023: Retained Players for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

INR 8.75 crores left as we look at the retained players list and purse details for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for IPL 2023.

The team with the most engaging fan base, the Royal Challengers Bangalore had a fairly successful IPL 2022 season where they finished third. While RCB would be disappointed for not winning the trophy, the team is moving in the right direction looking at their player retention.

RCB have been one of the only three teams to have retained 18 or more players ahead of the Auction. This shows the trust they had in their strategy and the players they purchased in the Auction. The team is also set to see the same leadership of Faf du Plessis, who in IPL 2023 would want to take his team a step ahead.

Overall, RCB retained a total of 18 players including 6 overseas players. The 18 players are 4 batters, 3 wicket-keepers, 5 all-rounders, 5 pacers, and 1 spinner. So, here’s the list of the official retained players list for RCB for IPL 2023.

IPL 2023 – Retained Players for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB):

Faf du Plessis (o), Rajat Patidar, Suyash Prabhudessai, Virat Kohli, Anuj Rawat (wk), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Finn Allen (wk&o), David Willey (o), Glenn Maxwell (o), Mahipal Lomror, Shahbaz Ahmed, Wanindu Hasaranga (o), Akash Deep, Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood (o), Karn Sharma, Mohammed Siraj & Siddharth Kaul

Total Players Retained: 18 // Purse Remaining: INR 8.75 Crores

Analyzing the squad, RCB look well-balanced in almost all areas. Even if they don’t go in the Auction, they are ready to fight the battle in IPL 2023. But if they had to purchase anyone, they can do so by purchasing a good Indian batter and spinner. But the only issue is the low purse of INR 8.75 crores.

In terms of released players, RCB released only 5 players. 2 are redundant overseas in the form of Jason Behrendorff and Sherfane Rutherford. Whereas 3 are young Indians in the form of Aneeshwar Gautam, Chama Milind, and Luvnith Sisodia.

IPL 2023 – Released Players for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB):

Aneeshwar Gautam, Chama Milind, Jason Behrendorff (o) (Traded To MI), Luvnith Sisodia & Sherfane Rutherford (o)

Total Players Released: 5

Talking about the best playing 11 for RCB from the retained players for IPL 2023, we should see the same experienced duo of Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli as openers. The man-in-form Rajat Patidar shall hold on to the number 3 spot. Whereas the middle-order shall rely on Glenn Maxwell and Mahipal Lomror. However, RCB can also think of playing Suyash Prabhudessai for Lomror for better hitting abilities.

The finishing duties shall once again belong to Dinesh Karthik, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Wanindu Hasaranga. Whereas the bowling shall be led by the pace trio of Josh Hazlewood, Harshal Patel, and Mohammed Siraj. Overall, the playing 11 doesn’t need any alteration, except for Lomror’s place.
