IPL 2023: Official Squad Players list for Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) purchase 7 players in Auction as we look at their full official squad and players list for IPL 2023. 

Even before the Auction had begun, the Chennai Super Kings had a fairly good squad in place with as many as 18 retentions. All they needed was one good all-rounder from the IPL 2023 Auction, and they did that by buying England’s Ben Stokes.

CSK spent a whopping INR 16.25 crores to buy the services of Ben Stokes, thus making him the costliest CSK player ever. In the current setup, Ravindra Jadeja is the closest to the Salary of Ben Stokes at INR 16 Crores. Whereas CSK’s captain Thala MS Dhoni has a salary of INR 12 Crores.

Chennai Super Kings spent a good INR 19 Crores to buy 7 players, thus taking their squad to a maximum limit of 25 players. So, here’s the final list of all players purchased by CSK and their Auction price from the IPL 2023 Mini Auction.

In terms of the squad, CSK now have 25 players in their squad including 8 overseas players. The team has a good set of all-rounders, but unfortunately, only 4 can make it to the playing 11. Overall, CSK look good with their buys, and have strong players to complete their playing 11. Here’s the official squad for CSK for IPL 2023.

Chennai Super Kings had a fairly good playing 11 even before the IPL 2023 Auction. But the addition of Ben Stokes makes things quite interesting. Without a doubt, Ben Stokes would feature in the 11. But in whose place will he come is the question? 

Ben Stokes has 3 options in which he can be drafted into the squad. One is he plays in place of Devon Conway as an opener. That way, Rayudu and Dube both can feature in the 11 and Pretorius can play as a death overs bowler. Second is Stokes comes in for Pretorius, and Conway, Dube, and Rayudu feature in the playing 11.

But in all probability, Stokes will replace Pretorius and will play at number 5. In this scenario, one of Rayudu or Dube will miss out with the probability of the latter missing out seems higher. This way, CSK can play Simarjeet as the third pacer of the squad. The batting order also remains quite good in this manner, unlike the previous two options.
