IPL 2023: Full Retained Players List for Rajasthan Royals (RR)

INR 13.20 crores left as we look at the retained players list and purse details for Rajasthan Royals (RR) for IPL 2023.

The 2022 runners-up, Rajasthan Royals had fairly decent player retentions ahead of the IPL 2023 Mini Auction. The team retained a total of 16 players including 4 overseas players. Whereas the team let go of 9 players including 5 overseas players.

Their strategy of retention seems to be aligned around the overseas players whom they purchased in 2022 just for the sake of purchasing. They hardly used the likes of Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham, Rassie van der Dussen, Corbin Bish, and Nathan Coulter-Nile, and this was also reflected in the retention strategy.

Overall, the 16 players that Rajasthan Royals include 3 batters, 3 wicket-keepers, 2 all-rounders, 6 pacers, and 2 spinners. This looks balanced in all the areas, except for All-rounders. So, here’s the official squad and players list for Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2023.

IPL 2023 – Retained Players for Rajasthan Royals (RR):

Devdutt Padikkal, Shimron Hetmyer (o), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Jos Buttler (o), Sanju Samson (C), Ravichandran Ashwin, Riyan Parag, KC Cariappa, Kuldeep Sen, Kuldip Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Obed McCoy (o), Prasidh Krishna, Trent Boult (o) & Yuzvendra Chahal

Total Players Retained: 16 // Purse Remaining: INR 13.20 Crores

Analyzing the squad, Rajasthan Royals are good in all areas except for all-rounders. Honestly, they have none on paper as Ashwin and Riyan Parag are more like part-time all-rounders. With INR 13.2 crores in the kitty, the team needs to invest in 1-2 quality Indian or overseas all-rounders.

IPL 2023 – Released Players for Rajasthan Royals (RR):

Players Released: Anunay Singh, Corbin Bosch (o), Daryl Mitchell (o), James Neesham (o), Karun Nair, Nathan Coulter-Nile (o), Rassie Van Der Dussen (o), Shubham Garhwal & Tejas Baroka.

Total Players Released:

Rajasthan Royals released a total of 9 players ahead of the IPL 2023 Auction. With as many as 5 overseas players released, it felt they wanted to get rid of the redundant overseas players in the form of Corbin Bosch, James Neesham, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Van der Dussen, and Daryl Mitchell.

Among senior players, Karun Nair was released, who seems to be out of form and low on confidence. Apart from these players, Rajasthan Royals released young Indian players in the form of Anunay Singh, Shubham Garhwal, and Tejas Baroka. Overall, the strategy seems good to let go of not-so-good players.

IPL 2023 – Best Playing 11 from Retained Players for Rajasthan Royals (RR):

Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson (c&wk), Devdutt Padikkal, Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, Ravichandran Ashwin, Obed McCoy, Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna & Yuzvendra Chahal

Talking about the best playing 11 for Rajasthan Royals based on retained players for IPL 2023, the playing 11 resembles the 2022 team almost identically. Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal to open with Captain Sanju Samson at 3, Devdutt Padikkal at 4, and Shimron Hetmyer at 5.

All-rounders Riyan Parag and Ravichandran Ashwin are to follow them at 6 and 7 respectively. Whereas the bowling shall be led by Trent Boult, Obed McCoy, Prasidh Krishna, and Yuzvendra Chahal. If RR get a good all-rounder, they can think of resting McCoy and playing Kuldeep Sen.
