Asia Cup 2022 – Rohit Sharma Shares an Important Update

Rohit Sharma shares an important update on mindset and approach ahead of Asia Cup 2022.

T20 World Cup 2021 was the last big tournament that Team India played. The performance wasn’t pleasing for Team India as they failed to qualify for the Semis. Since then, Virat Kohli resigned from T20I captaincy, and Team India started afresh under the leadership of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid.

Rohit, who took the reins from Virat Kohli talked about the need for a change in mindset and approach, especially in the shortest format of the game. “We have made it very clear after the T20 World Cup in Dubai when we didn’t qualify (for the semi-final). We felt that there needs to be a change in our attitude, in our approach to how we play the game.” Said Rohit Sharma on the change in Approach after the T20 World Cup 2021 exit.

This is also reflected in Team India’s performance in T20Is after T20 World Cup 2021. Since November 15, 2021, Team India have scored at a rate of 9.24 runs per over from 24 innings; better than any team in the same period in T20Is. The second best is New Zealand with 9.12 RPO from 10 innings. Whereas third best is South Africa at 9 RPO from 15 innings.

Same in powerplays where Team India have scored at a rate of 8.29; best among all the team. West Indies and New Zealand follow them with an RPO of 7.67 and 7.61 respectively. It is this approach that has helped Team India win 19 matches at a win percentage of 79.2%.
