Shahbaz Ahmed Replaces Injured Washington Sundar for Zimbabwe ODI Series
Star RCB All-rounder, Shahbaz Ahmed replaces the injured Washington Sundar in the ODI Series squad for Zimbabwe Tour.
In the form of unfortunate news, Team India’s all-rounder, Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the Zimbabwe tour due to a shoulder injury. The 22-year-old Sundar will now undergo a rehabilitation camp in Bangalore.
However, the good news is that Washington Sundar has been replaced by the star RCB all-rounder, Shahbaz Ahmed. This is Shahbaz’s maiden Team India call-up. Shahbaz, who plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League, is a left-arm spin bowling all-rounder.
Shahbaz Ahmed, who also plays for Bengal in India Domestic tournaments had done extremely well in IPL 2022. In the 16 matches Shahbaz Ahmed played for RCB in IPL 2022, he scored 219 runs and took 4 wickets. Him along with Dinesh Karthik helped RCB on many occasions after a top-order collapse.
While we are excited to see Shahbaz in the squad, we also hope Washington Sundar recovers soon. He is one of the few all-rounders who can bowl off-spin and can bat well down the order.
Shahbaz Ahmed’s Record in Domestic Circuit:
Shahbaz Ahmed has played a total of 26 List A Matches between 2018 and 2022. From these 26 matches, Shahbaz has scored 662 runs at an average of 47.3 and a strike rate of 92.4. In the bowling department, Shahbaz has taken 24 wickets at an average of 39.2 and an economy rate of 4.4. Shahbaz has also played IPL between 2020 and 2022. In all, he has scored 279 runs and has taken 13 wickets in IPL.
