Star Sports Makes Official Announcement on Asia Cup 2022

UAE set to host Asia Cup 2022 as we look at the official announcement by Star Sports 

Asia Cup is one tournament that everyone has been eagerly waiting for ever since its announcement of being conducted in 2022. Given that this year the tournament is scheduled to take place in the T20 format as a prelude to T20 World Cup 2022, the excitement was superb.

Now, Star Sports have come up with an official announcement that Asia Cup 2022 will be conducted in UAE from August 27, 2022. One of the main reasons to move away from Sri Lanka was the possibility of rain in the island location.

UAE has been a saviour location for cricket tournaments due to COVID. The entire IPL 2021 was conducted in UAE, and 50% of IPL 2022 was also conducted in UAE. With that pretext, this isn’t a surprise that the tournament will be conducted in UAE. The tournament officially begins on August 27, and will commence on September 11 with India vs Pakistan grand clash scheduled on August 28.

Asia Cup History:

To recap, the last two tournaments were won by India. They won the ODI format tournament in 2018 and won the T20 format in 2016. While the 2016 tournament was led by MS Dhoni, the 2018 tournament was led by Rohit Sharma. Sachin Tendulkar is the leading run-scorer for India in Asia Cup with 971 runs to his name. Whereas Ravindra Jadeja is the leading wicket-taker for India in Asia Cup with 22 wickets to his name.
