Ever since the inception of the Asia Cup in 1984, India have as used as many as 74 bowlers in the tournament. Out of these 74 bowlers, 60 have taken at least one wicket in the tournament. But what about the leading wicket-takers for India in the Asia Cup? Let’s look at the top 5 Indian bowlers with the most wickets in the Asia Cup. 

Top 5 Leading Indian Wickets-Takers in Asia Cup History 

#5: 15 by Kapil Dev

Team India’s GOAT all-rounder, Kapil Dev is fifth on the list with 15 wickets to his name in Asia Cup. Surprisingly, Kapil played only 7 matches from 1988 to 1991 and took 15 wickets. Kapil Dev’s bowling average of 13 and economy rate of 3.6 are the lowest among the top 10 wicket takers. 

#4: 17 by Sachin Tendulkar 

Number 4 belongs to a surprise entry, Sachin Tendulkar. Honestly, Sachin is so underrated as a bowler. He is already the leading run-scorer for India in the Asia Cup, and here is the fourth-highest wicket-taker. Overall, Sachin has taken 17 wickets from 15 innings at an average of 21.4 and an economy rate of 4.8. 

#3: 18 by Ravichandran Ashwin

The off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin is third on the list of the most wickets for India in the Asia Cup. Ashwin has taken 18 wickets from just 11 matches at an average of 22.3 and an economy rate of 4.9. Ashwin is currently a part of the squad for Asia Cup 2022, and has all chances to be the leading wicket-taker for India. 

#2: 22 by Irfan Pathan

The Left-arm pacer, Irfan Pathan is the joint leading wicket-taker for India in Asia Cup with 22 wickets to his name. Irfan has represented India from 2004-12 and has played 12 matches. Irfan has an economy rate of 5.5 and a bowling average of 27.5. His best bowling figures of 4/32 came against Sri Lanka in Mirpur 2012. 

#1: 22 by Ravindra Jadeja

The highest wicket-taker for India in the Asia Cup belongs to Ravindra Jadeja. The left-arm spinner has represented India in 18 matches from 2010 to 2018. Jadeja’s 22 wickets have come at an average of 26.6 and an economy rate of 4.6. He is the only Indian bowler to have two 4-wicket hauls in the Asia Cup. With Jadeja also a part of Asia Cup 2022, he will most probably extend his record.
