The Asia Cup history runs back to 1984 when the Asian giants first played the tournament. Although the initial tournament was played only between India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan, the 2022 edition sees 6 teams officially participating in the tournament. In addition, there are more than 10 association teams that play the Qualifiers. 

Talking about the leading run-getters in the Asia Cup history, we see the Indians and Sri Lankans dominating the tournament. In the top 10 run-getters in Asia Cup history, there are 4 Indians, 4 Sri Lankans, and 2 Pakistani players. So, here’s a list of the top 5 players who have scored the most runs in Asia Cup history.  

Top 5 Leading Run-scorer in Asia Cup History 

#5: 883 by Rohit Sharma 

Team India’s Captain for Asia Cup 2022, Rohit Sharma is fifth on the list with 883 runs to his name. Rohit has played Asia Cup since 2008, and has represented all Asia Cups since then. In all, he has played 26 innings to score 883 runs at an average of 42.0 and strike rate of 90. Overall, Rohit has scored 7 fifties and 1 century with the highest score being 111*(119) vs Pakistan in Asia Cup 2018.   

#4: 907 by Shoaib Malik 

Coming to number 4, we have the only Pakistani player in the top 5, Shoaib malik. The Pakistani legend has represented Pakistan in Asia Cup from 2000 to 2018, and has played a total of 19 innings. Overall, he has scored 907 runs at an average of 64.8 and a strike rate of 93. He has scored 4 fifties and 3 centuries with the highest score being 143(127) vs India in Asia Cup 2004.   

#3: 971 by Sachin Tendulkar 

Number 3 is India’s most celebrated player, Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar, who represented India in Asia Cup from 1990 to 2012 has scored a total of 971 runs from 21 innings. His average remains at 51.1 and his strike rate at 85.5. Overall, Sachin has scored 7 fifties and 2 centuries with the highest score being 114(147) vs Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2012.   

#2: 1075 by Kumar Sangakkara 

Sri Lankan Legendary Keeper, Kumar Sangakkara is second on the list with 1075 runs to his name. He represented Sri Lanka in Asia Cup from 2004 to 2014, and has played a total of 23 innings to score 1075 runs at an average of 48.9 and a strike rate of 84.5. Overall, Sanga has scored 8 fifties and 4 centuries with the highest score being 121(128) vs Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2008.   

#1: 1220 by Sanath Jayasuriya   

The number 1 also belongs to a Sri Lankan, Sanath Jayasuriya. The attacking left-handed opener has represented Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup from 1990 to 2008 and has scored a solid 1220 runs from 24 innings. His average stands at a good 53.0 and his strike rate is fantastic at 102.5. Overall, Jayasuriya has scored 3 fifties and 6 centuries with the highest score being 130(132) vs India in Asia Cup 2004.
