The biggest T20 tournament in the world, the Indian Premier League is back, and we are only a few weeks away from its official kick-off the 17th edition of the tournament, the IPL 2024. March 22 is when the tournament is going to kick-off, and it will be the enthralling start to the competition with the Chennai Super Kings taking on the Royal Challengers Bangalore at Chennai.
The good news for all the fans is that the entire tournament will be played in India even as the country goes into the Lok Sabha elections. However, owing to the election duties, the BCCI could only release the schedule for the first two weeks. Once they get a confirmation on the election dates, and other security formalities, the BCCI will release the rest of the fixtures list.
The first two weeks of IPL 2024 will see a total of 21 matches being played from March 22 to April 07. Overall, each team will play around 3-4 matches each. The start of the tournament will see some blockbuster clashes in the form of RCB vs CSK on March 22, GT vs MI on March 24, CSK vs GT on March 26, RCB vs LSG on April 02, and RR vs RCB on April 06.
There will be a total of four double-headers in the first two weeks with afternoon matches on March 23, March 24, March 31, and April 07. Except for CSK, KKR, RR, and RCB, the other six teams will play at least one afternoon match in the first two weeks. In terms of the locations, the first two weeks will see matches being played in Chennai, Mohali, Kolkata, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Vizag, Mumbai, and Lucknow.
IPL 2024 Fixtures – Timings
In terms of timings, except for the first match, which will start at 8 pm IST due to the opening ceremony, the evening matches shall begin at 7:30 pm, and the afternoon matches shall begin at 3:30 pm. The evening time seems ideal for anyone who would want to attend the event physically, or watch it on the television as you may expect the match to end before midnight.
To recap what has happened in the Indian Premier League over the last year, the Chennai Super Kings became champions for the fifth time after beating the Gujarat Titans in a last-ball thriller. SRH finished at the bottom of the points table with a decent 4 wins from 10 games. Whereas LSG and MI found themselves in the Playoffs of IPL 2023.
Additionally, the IPL 2024 Auction was one of the most exciting affairs that we got to witness last December. The Auction witnesses the two most expensive players in the history of the Indian Premier League. While Pat Cummins became the most expensive player in the history of the IPL at 20.5 Cr, the record was short-lived as KKR broke the record later by purchasing Mitchell Starc at a staggering price of 24.75 Cr.
The 2024 IPL promises to be another exciting affair as all teams looks evenly balanced with no clear favorite team on paper. However, as we had seen last year as well, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians will be the teams to watch out for in IPL 2024.
