Asian Games 2023: Updated Cricket Squad Players List for India
Akash Deep replaces Shivam Mavi as we look at the updated final squad players list for the India Cricket team for the Asian Games Hangzhou 2023.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently shared the updated and final squad list for Team India for the Asian Games Hangzhou 2023. The board updated that Pacer Shivam Mavi is suffering from a back injury, and has been ruled out of the tournament.
Shivam Mavi, who plays for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League has been replaced by another pacer Akash Deep, who represents Royal Challengers Bangalore. Akash rose to prominence after a good IPL 2022. However, he didn’t play for the majority of IPL 2023 with Vyshak Vijaykumar being given the priority.
To review the Asian Games squad, India would be led by Ruturaj Gaikwad. Ruturaj, who plays under MS Dhoni in the IPL will try to bring calmness to the team as his Mentor MS Dhoni usually does. While BCCI hasn’t announced any Vice Captaincy candidate, the Coaching duties shall be taken care by VVS Laxman.
Overall, India have selected a 15-member squad along with 5 backups for the T20 format Asian Games. Other than Ruturaj, the team has Rahul Tripathi, Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, and Yashasvi Jaiswal among the frontline batters. The team then has Jitesh Sharma and Prabsimran Singh among the Wicket-keepers.
In terms of All-rounders, Team India have selected Shahbaz Ahmed, Shivam Dube, and Washington Sundar. Whereas for the bowlers, Team India have Pacers Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar, and lone front-line spinner Ravi Bishnoi. Talking about the best first-choice playing 11 for Team India for the Asian Games 2023, we should expect Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal to open. Tilak Varma should play at number 3 with Shivam Dube at 4, and Rinku Singh at 5. The finishing duties shall rely on Jitesh Sharma and Washington Sundar. Whereas the bowling shall be taken care by Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan, and Ravi Bishnoi.

Asian Games Hangzhou 2023 India Cricket Fixtures:
Coming to the fixtures for Men’s Cricket, a total of 18 teams shall feature in the tournament. India will directly play in the Quarter finals being one of the top four teams. For India, the first match will be a Quarter-final on October 3. If India wins the QF, the Semi-final shall feature on October 6th. If India win/lose that, then the Final/3rd place match shall feature on the 7th of October.
