You might be surprised, but India had won the very first ODI vs Australia, and that too by a convincing 66 runs. Overall, India have played Australia 146 times. While India have won 54 times, Australia have won 82 times.

If we talk about the individual numbers in India vs Australia ODIs, Sachin Tendulkar is the leading run-scorer at 3077. He has also hit 9 centuries in India vs Australia ODIs – the most by a player. But how about the top 7 highest individual ODI score in India vs Australia? Well, let’s find out in this article.

Highest Individual Player ODI Score – India vs Australia 2023:

#7: 143 by Shikhar Dhawan

Score: 143(115) // 4s: 18 // 6s: 3 // SR: 124.3

At number 7, we have Shikhar Dhawan’s highest ODI score that came against Australia at Mohali in 2019. Dhawan, who opened the innings alongside Rohit scored a beautiful 143 off 115 balls to lift India to a mammoth score of 358 in 50 overs. Dhawan had a great chance of a double hundred, but he got out in the 37th over. Unfortunately, India lost the match, courtesy to Ashton Turner’s 84 off 43 balls.

#6: 143 by Sachin Tendulkar

Score: 143(131) // 4s: 9 // 6s: 5 // SR: 109.2

At number 6, we have Sachin Tendulkar’s 143, which is also known as the Desert Storm. Back in 1998 when the Tri ODI series was a fashion, India needed a maestro from Sachin to qualify for the Coca Cola Series final. Sachin provided exactly that as his stormy 143 off 131 balls helped India qualify for the Final even as India lost the match to Australia. Fortunately, Sachin scored another century in the final to win the Classic Coca Cola Cup in 1998.

#5: 149 by Steve Smith

Score: 149(135) // 4s: 11 // 6s: 2 // SR: 110.4

At number 5, we have the first Australian to feature in the list, and it is the legendary Steve Smith, who hit a stunning 149 off 135 balls to help Australia chase 310 against India in 2016. Chasing 310 on a bouncy pitch of Perth, Smith scored a stunning 149, and got out only in the 50th over when two runs were needed.

#4: 156 by George Bailey

Score: 156(114) // 4s: 13 // 6s: 6 // SR: 136.8

Coming to number 4, we have the highest individual score by an Australian against India in ODIs. This comes from Captain George Bailey, who hit his career-best 156 off 114 balls to help Australia reach a mammoth 350 in 50 overs. Bailey’s strike rate of 136.8 remains the highest in the top 20 highest scores in India vs Australia ODIs.

#3: 171 by Rohit Sharma

Score: 171*(163) // 4s: 13 // 6s: 7 // SR: 104.9

At number 3, we have the classic Rohit Sharma 171, which came on a bouncy wicket of Perth. In the same match in which Steve Smith scored 149, India’s foundation of 309 runs was laid by Rohit Sharma’s 171 off 163 balls. India lost this match, unfortunately, and one must say Rohit’s 171 off 163 or Virat Kohli’s 91 off 97 balls with a slow strike rate could be the reason.

#2: 175 by Sachin Tendulkar

Score: 175(141) // 4s: 19 // 6s: 4 // SR: 124.1

For number 2, we have Sachin Tendulkar’s 175 at Hyderabad in 2009 where he almost pulled off an improbable chase. 2009 to 2011 was the period Sachin was at the peak of his ODI career. Chasing a mammoth 351, Sachin’s 171 off 141 made sure the chase was on till the last moment. With only 19 needed off 17 balls, Sachin got out, and post that, Jadeja and others couldn’t win the match for India as India fell short by 4 runs.

#1: 209 by Rohit Sharma

Score: 209(158) // 4s: 12 // 6s: 16 // SR: 132.3

Coming to the greatest ODI knock vs Australia in ODIs, it is Rohit Sharma’s first double hundred in One Day Internationals. November 2013 it was when Rohit Sharma had only started playing regularly as an opener. What an announcement at the world stage was that from Rohit, who made a staggering 209 off 158 balls. Rohit hit 16 sixes in the knock, which happens to be the highest against Australia in ODIs.

So, that’s about the highest individual score in India vs Australia ODIs.
