India vs New Zealand 2023: Complete ODI and T20 Squad Players

Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma to lead as we look at the official squad and players list for Team India vs New Zealand 2023 series.

Please note, the following article has been updated after Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the ODI series with Rajat Patiday replacing him. 

The BCCI on Friday, Jan 13 announced the official squad for Team India for the 2023 ODI and T20 series vs New Zealand. The New Zealand team shall tour Team India for the 3-match ODI and 3-match T20I series to be played from Jan 18th to Feb 1st, 2023.

Team India have selected a 16-member squad for both, T20 as well as ODI series. Both the squads are in alignment with the ODI and T20 series vs Sri Lanka; albeit with a few changes. So, here are the key changes and the official squad for both series.   

Team India’s ODI Series Squad

Team India have selected a 16-member squad for the ODI series vs New Zealand. Overall, the squad sees three major changes with KL Rahul and Axar Patel being left out as they have opted for personal leave. Whereas Arshdeep Singh has been dropped to accommodate Shardul Thakur.

With KL Rahul and Axar Patel not included, Team India have selected KS Bharat and Shahbaz Ahmed as their replacement respectively. KS Bharat, who receives a maiden call-up has been included as primary keeper Rishabh Pant and Backup keeper Sanju Samson are still injured. So, here’s the official ODI series squad.

Batters: Rajat Patidar, Rohit Sharma [c], Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav & Virat Kohli

Wks: Ishan Kishan & KS Bharat

All-rounders: Hardik Pandya [vc], Shahbaz Ahmed & Washington Sundar

Bowlers: Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, Umran Malik & Yuzvendra Chahal

Team India’s T20 Series Squad

Coming to the T20 series squad, we once again have two major changes. Harshal Patel has been dropped, and in his place, Kuldeep Yadav has been included. Whereas Prithvi Shaw comes in for Axar Patel, who is on personal leave. 

It’s a great opportunity for attacking Prithvi Shaw. He has been banging the door continuously to be included in the Indian team. Meanwhile, in the absence of Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and Jitesh Sharma shall don the wicket-keeping duties.

Important to note that senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj continue to be left out of the T20 squad owing to workload management. So, here’s the official squad for Team India for the T20 series vs New Zealand.

Bowlers: Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Shivam Mavi, Umran Malik & Yuzvendra Chahal

So, that’s about the squad for Team India for the 2023 T20 and ODI series vs New Zealand. With a few young guns added to both squads, it would be interesting to see how Team India select their first-choice playing 11.
