It’s match 9 of IPL 2024, and we have the clash of two best friends, Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant. Both were a part of the Delhi Capitals camp a few years back before Sanju Samson moved to Rajasthan Royals. Nevertheless, both teams are coming to this game with contrasting results. While Rajasthan Royals registered a win over Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals lost a close encounter against Punjab Kings.

Rajasthan Royals started their campaign with a solid win over Lucknow Super Giants. The team had things sorted in terms of their batting-order as well as playing 11. Having batted first, RR played their subs game perfectly. They kept Rovman Powell in the subs, and were planning to play him only in case of emergency. The move helped them as Powell didn’t need to bat, and instead, Rajasthan played Nandre Burger as an extra bowler. 

The move worked because Rajasthan Royals batted first. But in case RR bowl first, it looks unlikely that RR will keep Powell in subs. They will have to play one between Nandre Burger and Rovman Powell. But with RR lacking batting depth, they most-likely will be playing Powell ahead of Nandre Burger. Five bowlers can still do the job, but playing only six batters is always a bad strategy.

Delhi Capitals Best Playing 11 vs RR

Delhi Capitals surprised everyone with their playing 11 in their first encounter vs RR. The team played a lot of youngsters in the form of Ricky Bhui, Abhishek Porel, and Sumit Kumar. Such was the playing 11 that Prithvi Shaw was left out, and DC played Shai Hope in their starting 11. In addition, DC opened with Mitchell Marsh and David Warner, unlike their usual Warner and Shaw combo.

DC could do all this because Anrich Nortje wasn’t available in the first match. But Anrich Nortje has arrived, and he will straight away get a go in the starting 11. But then who goes out? Well, one of Shai Hope or Tristan Stubss will sit out. Ideally, Stubbs should play ahead of Shai Hope, but since Hope had a better outing in the first match, and he also bats in the top-order, we should see Delhi Capitals persisting with Hope ahead of Stubbs.

In addition, Delhi Capitals are unlikely to play Prithvi Shaw as their opening combination seems fixed.  Meanwhile, Ishant Sharma suffered a leg injury in the first match, so with Ishant not available, Mukesh Kumar should definitely get a go in the starting 11. Hence, expect Delhi Capitals to keep Sumit Kumar as an impact substitute.
