We are heading to the third Test match of the exciting 5-match Test series between India and England, and the series is nicely poised at 1-1. While England with their Bazball won the first Test match in Hyderabad, they gave India the run for their money in the second Test match in Vizag before the England batters finally gave up in the chase.
With the series at 1-1, we are now heading to Rajkot, which will host a Test match after a gap of 6 years. Of the two Test matches that have been played at Rajkot, India won against West Indies in 2018, and drew against England in 2016. The ground which generally favors spin bowling should once again see both teams being spin-heavy in their bowling lineup.
Meanwhile, for the squad, India have issues of their own to address. The Indian team is already without Virat Kohli after the batter opted out of the entire series due to personal reasons. With Mohammed Shami already out due to injury, the Indian team is dealt with a big blow after KL Rahul was also ruled out of the 3rd Test match. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) only recently announced the revised squad for the 3rd Test match for Team India. KL Rahul has failed to recover in time has been ruled out of the third test match. In his place, the Indian team added Devdutt Padikkal to the squad. With KL Rahul not available, the equation in the Indian team changes a lot for their overall team combination.
For starters, the top-order should remain the same for Team India. While Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal should continue to open, Shubman Gill should play a key role at the number 3 position. With a settled top 3, the middle-order and lower-order will see drastic changes in the Indian team in the absence of first-choice Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant.
Rajat Patidar, who made his debut in the second Test match should continue to retain his place for the third Test match as well. In place of Shreyas Iyer, who has been dropped and KL Rahul ruled out, we should finally see Sarfaraz Khan making his much-deserved debut for the senior team. It has been a long time coming for Sarfaraz, who has piled up a mountain of runs in Domestic cricket.
Another important change we should see is Dhruv Jurel in place of KS Bharat for the wicket-keeper slot. KS Bharat did impress as a wicket-keeper in both the Test matches, but his batting has been a miss so far. With Indian batting already a struggling unit, India need a strong batter, and Dhruv Jurel may be able to provide that.
Finally, as another change, Ravindra Jadeja will be back in the squad for the third Test match. But at whose expense will Jaddu come in? Well, he can’t replace Axar or Ashwin as both provide good batting depth. Similarly, you can’t drop Kuldeep Yadav, who looked India’s best bowler in Vizag. So, the only option that remains is that of the second pacer, and that’s the position Jadeja will take.

However, with a gap of 10 days, England should continue to persist with James Anderson, and then rest him for the fourth Test match.
