Chasing 198, India saw a solid 46 runs opening stand between Rohit and Dhawan in just 3 overs. After Dhawan got out, Virat and Rohit continued the chase as they added another 78 runs. With 74 needed from 8 overs, Raina made a quickfire 49 off 25 balls to cross India over the line in 20 overs.  

#6: 199 vs England @ Bristol, 2018

Number 6 takes us to 2018 when India toured England. The series was leveled at 1-1, and India needed this win to take home the T20 trophy. Chasing a daunting 199, Rohit Sharma led the Indian batting in some fashion. Rohit with support from Virat (43 runs) and Hardik (33 runs) scored an unbeaten 100 off just 56 balls to take home India in just 18.4 overs.  

#5: 202 vs Australia @ Rajkot, 2013

We are in 2013, and it is the same team, Australia where India chased a solid 202. Australia played India in a one-off T20 match at Rajkot, and the match was filled with excitement. Chasing 202 after Finch’s 89 off 52 balls, India were reeling at 100/4 after 11.1 overs. With 102 needed from 53 balls, Yuvraj Singh smashed 77 off 35 balls to help India achieve the target in 19.5 overs. It felt like a repeat of the 2007 T20 WC semifinal when Yuvi smashed 70 off 30 balls vs Australia. 

#4: 204 vs New Zealand @ Auckland, 2020

Number 4 takes us to 2020 when India’s all-time best T20 player, Suryakumar Yadav wasn’t a part of India’s setup. This comes from the 1st T20I of India’s tour of New Zealand. Chasing 204, India lost Rohit Sharma early. But a teamwork comprising of KL Rahul’s 56 off 27, Virat Kohli’s 45 off 32, and Shreyas Iyer’s 58 off 29 helped India achieve the target in 19 overs. 

#3: 207 vs Sri Lanka @ Mohali, 2009

At number 3, we have India’s oldest chase which came against Sri Lanka in 2009. After losing the first T20I, India needed a win to stay afloat in the series, and Yuvraj Singh produced magic to help India achieve that. Chasing 207, Sehwag led India to a flier scoring 64 off 36 balls. With another 100 runs needed from 9 overs, Yuvraj smashed 60 off 25 balls to help India achieve the target in just 19.1 overs. 

#2: 208 vs West Indies @ Hyderabad, 2019

10 years later vs West Indies Team India achieved their highest successful run chase in T20Is. This was from the 1st T20I during India’s tour of the West Indies 2019. Chasing a solid 208, it was Virat Kohli’s night who smashed a stunning 94 off just 50 balls to help India achieve the target in just 18.4 overs. This was also the night when Virat Kohli smashed Kesark Williams to all parts, and reminded him of who he messed up with. 

#1: 209 vs Australia @ Visakhapatnam, 2023

The numero uno and the most recent of the lot chase comes from India’s favorite opposition, Australia. This comes from a young and dynamic team under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav. Chasing a daunting 209, it was Suryakumar Yadav’s show once again who after a poor ODI World Cup performance turned the tables with a solid 80 off 42 balls. Even as India played well, it was Rinku Singh who finished the match with a fabulous six off the last ball; thus making his mark as a finisher.
