IPL 2024 Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Retained Squad List

IPL 2024 – Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retain 19 players as we look at their complete retained and released squad and players list. 

One of the most successful franchises in the Indian Premier League, Chennai Super Kings have kick-started their IPL 2024 campaign by sharing some great news with the fans. As the demand has been and the interest of our very own Thala, CSK have unquestionably retained the most lovable player currently in the IPL, MS Dhoni.

With MS Dhoni at the helm once again, CSK have retained 18 more players including their last year’s core playing 11. Overall, CSK have retained 3 batters, 2 wicket-keepers, 6 All-rounders, and 8 bowlers. While the retentions were on the point, CSK had to unfortunately release two big names in the form of Ambati Rayudu, who has retired, and Ben Stokes, who has opted out of IPL 2024. 

With 19 retentions, CSK now have INR 31.4 Cr in their kitty for the IPL 2024 Auction. They can use this amount to purchase a maximum of 3 overseas and 3 Indian players. So, as we wait for the Mini Auction to begin, let’s look at the official retained squad and released players for IPL 2024 Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the Auction. 

Batters & WKs – 5

Ajinkya Rahane, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shaik Rasheed, Devon Conway (o&wk) & MS Dhoni (c&wk)

CSK have retained 3 batters and 2 wicket-keepers for IPL 2024. While Wicket-keeper retentions don’t see any releases, CSK have released Ambati Rayudu and Subhranshu Senapati from the batters category. Overall, CSK have retained two solid batters, Ajjinkya Rahane and Ruturaj Gaikwad along with key backup Shaik Rasheed. Whereas two primary wicket-keepers retained by CSK are Devon Conway and Captain MS Dhoni. 

All-rounders – 6

Ajay Mandal, Mitchell Santner (o), Moeen Ali (o), Nishant Sindhu, Ravindra Jadeja & Shivam Dube

Coming to All-rounders, CSK had to let go of Ben Stokes after the player decided to back out. Other than Stokes, CSK have released Bhagath Varma and Dwaine Pretorius. CSK now have only one pace all-rounder in the form of Shivam Dube. Rest all 5 are spin all-rounders with Santner, Jadeja, and Moeen Ali being the primary ones, and Ajay Mandal and Nishant Sindhu being the backups.   

Bowlers – 8

Deepak Chahar, Maheesh Theekshana (o), Matheesha Pathirana (o), Mukesh Chaudhary, Prashant Solanki, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Simarjeet Singh & Tushar Deshpande

Coming to the bowlers, CSK have retained their core, and will ideally form the playing 11 from this. Maheesh Theekshana and Prashant Solani remain the primary spinners for CSK. Deepak Chahar, Matheesha Pathirana, and Mukesh Choudhary remain the key pacers retained by CSK with Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Simarjeet Singh, and Tushar Deshpande among the key backups.
