As India conclude another dominating performance in a bilateral series against Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI) has officially the all-format squad for a full-fledged South Africa tour. India will be playing 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs, and 2 Tests in a month-long tour against South Africa starting December 10, 2023.
Overall, India have selected 16 players for both the Test and ODI series, and 17 players for the T20 series. In a first of its kind, the South Africa tour will see three different Captains for the 3 series. While Rohit Sharma shall lead the Test series, KL Rahul shall lead the ODI series, and Suryakumar Yadav shall lead the T20 series.

Talking about the T20 series first up, Suryakumar Yadav shall be leading the squad with Ravindra Jadeja as his deputy. As we had expected, the senior players, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have decided to opt out from the white-ball tour, while Jasprit Bumrah has been rested.
From the current T20 series vs Australia, Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Avesh Khan, and Prasidh Krishna have been left out. Whereas Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav have been added to the squad. However, the biggest miss shall be that of Jasprit Bumrah, who shall mostly lead the bowling lineup in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Talking about the ODI series squad, a lot of World Cup players are missing from the squad. If we analyze the squad, as many as 12 players are missing from the squad, who were also a part of the World Cup. The new players that have been added to the squad are Rajat Patidar, Rinku Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudharsan, Avesh Khan, and Mukesh Kumar. India have finally decided to move from their old foes with a focus on the future. While the core remains the same as has been in the previous Test series, the squad shall see KL Rahul as a new wicket-keeping option along with Prasidh Krishna as the new pace option.
