IPL 2024 RCB Squad – Full Retained and Released Players List

A total of 19 players retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore as we look at the full IPL 2024 RCB Squad list. 

16 years and counting! That’s how the RCB fans and the team management have been eagerly waiting for their maiden IPL trophy. The wait moves to another fresh year as RCB announce their official retained and released players list for IPL 2024. The team has retained a total of 19 players including 14 Indian players and 5 overseas players. Of the retained 19 players, there are 5 batters, 2 wicket-keepers, 5 all-rounders, and 7 bowlers. Having retained these many, RCB now have INR 23.25 Cr in their Auction kitty.

Overall, RCB’s retentions felt on point, but what surprised me more was releasing the core of their bowling. Be it Josh Hazlewood, Harshal Patel, Wanindu Hasaranga, Wayne Parnell, or David Willey, RCB have released all of them.  So, with the official list in front of us, let’s look at the official IPL 2024 RCB Squad and full retained players list for Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the Auction. 

IPL 2024 RCB Squad – Full Retained and Released Players List

Batters & WKs – 7

Faf du Plessis (c&o), Rajat Patidar, Suyash Prabhudessai, Virat Kohli, Will Jacks (o), Anuj Rawat (wk) & Dinesh Karthik (wk)

The RCB team has retained 5 batters and 2 wicket-keepers. While batters contain Faf du Plessis, Rajat Patidar, Suyash Prabhudessai, Virat Kohli, and Will Jacks (o), the wicket-keepers include Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik. Among the players released by RCB in this category, there’s only Finn Allen, which shows RCB retained almost everyone in this category. 

All-rounders – 5

Cameron Green (t&o), Glenn Maxwell (o), Mahipal Lomror, Manoj Bhandage & Mayank Dagar (t)

Coming to the All-rounders, the main attraction has been the addition of Cameron Green, who has been traded from Mumbai Indians to RCB at a price of INR 17.5 Cr. Apart from Green, RCB have Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror, Manoj Bhandage, and Mayank Dagar, who has been traded in from SRH. Meanwhile, the players released by RCB in this category are David Willey (o), Kedar Jadhav, Michael Bracewell (o), and Wanindu Hasaranga.

Bowlers – 7

Akash Deep, Himanshu Sharma, Karn Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, Rajan Kumar, Reece Topley (o) & Vyshak Vijaykumar

Coming to the bowlers, RCB let go of all their frontline strike bowlers – the key ones including Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood, and Wayne Parnell. While these players were released, RCB retained the likes of Akash Deep, Himanshu Sharma, Karn Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, Rajan Kumar, Reece Topley, and Vyshak Vijaykumar.

IPL 2024 RCB Retained Players Playing 11:

Coming to the IPL 2024 Best Retained players playing 11 for RCB, we should see Faf du Plessis alongside a new opening partner Cameron Green. However, Virat may also continue to play as an opener with Green at 3 or 4. Other than these three, we should see Rajat Patidar, Glenn Maxwell,  Dinesh Karthik, and Mahipal Lomror following them. Meanwhile, the bowling shall rely on Mohammed Siraj, Vyshak Vijaykumar, Reece Topley, and Karn Sharma. 

So, that’s about the official retained IPL 2024 RCB squad and players list. RCB only need to invest in strengthening their bowling in the Auction with at least 1 good overseas pacer in demand.
