India vs England 2024: Official Squad List – 1st and 2nd Test

Uncapped Dhruv Jurel gets an opportunity as we look at the official India vs England 2024 squad for the 1st and 2nd Test matches.

The Indian Test team will be beginning their 2024 home campaign with the blockbuster 5-match series vs England. With just over a week left for the commencement of the series, the BCCI on Friday, Jan 13 announced the official squad for Team India for the 2024 Test series vs England. As expected, a total of 16 members have been selected, but with a few changes from the squad that played in South Africa.

To suit the Indian conditions, BCCI has strengthened the spin department by adding Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav in place of Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna, who is most likely to be missing due to injury. Avesh Khan has been able to sustain his place in the side after his inclusion in the 2nd Test vs South Africa in place of Mohammed Shami.

Other than these two, the squad sees the inclusion of uncapped player Dhruv Jurel, who will be Team India’s third wicket-keeper alongside KL Rahul and KS Bharat. Dhurv has been a part of the India A team for quite a few tours, and has been going good with his form. However, what’s surprising is India have included a third wicket-keeper in the squad, where a specialist batter like Sarfaraz Khan could have been more handy.

Missing Players:

In terms of omissions, the India vs England 2024 Test team will be without five of their first-choice Test players. Ruturaj Gaikwad sustained an injury during the South Africa tour, and is still yet to recover. Mohammed Shami didn’t play the South Africa series, and is still yet to recover. Ishan Kishan, who made himself unavailable during the South Africa tour is still not included in the England Test series.

Meanwhile, India’s best wicket-keeper, Rishab Pant may need a few more months to get back in the national side. Pant has started training, and is showing great signs of improvement, but is still not fully fit. In addition, the team has left out Shardul Thakur, who may as well doesn’t add a lot of value to the home conditions.
