India vs West Indies 2023: Last 3 ODI Series Official Squad List

A total of 13 players part of all series as we look at the official ODI squad and players for Team India for the last three series ahead of India vs West Indies 2023. 

The post IPL season begins for Team India in about 3 weeks, and it will kick-start with India’s tour of the West Indies. The West Indies tour starts on July 12, and will comprise 2 Tests, 3 ODIs, and 5 T20Is. While 3 T20Is will be played in West Indies, the final two will be played in the USA. 

Of the three series, all eyes will be on the most-important ODI series, which will act as a building block in Team India’s preparation for the ODI World Cup. The BCCI is yet to announce the official squad for all three series, but would be interesting to see the ODI squad, which will be missing a lot of key players. 

But before we get to the ODI series squad, how about we take a look at the official ODI series squad for Team India for the last three ODI series? This will give us an interesting outlook as to what Team India have been thinking when it comes to the core of players they look up to for the ODI World Cup 2023. 

India vs Sri Lanka 2023 Official ODI Series Squad for Team India:

Batters: Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav & Virat Kohli

WKs: Ishan Kishan & KL Rahul

All-rounders: Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya & Washington Sundar

Bowlers: Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umran Malik & Yuzvendra Chahal

We will look at the squad in ascending order with the most recent series being analyzed at the last. So, India played Sri Lanka at home before playing New Zealand and Australia. India selected a total of 16 players for the Sri Lanka series. Of the 16 players as seen above, except for KL Rahul, Axar Patel, and Arshdeep Singh, 13 players have been a part of all three recent ODI series. 

India vs New Zealand 2023 Official ODI Series Squad for Team India:

Batters: Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav & Virat Kohli

WKs: Ishan Kishan & KS Bharat

All-rounders: Hardik Pandya, Shahbaz Ahmed & Washington Sundar

Bowlers: Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, Umran Malik & Yuzvendra Chahal

Coming to the second-recent New Zealand series, India once again selected 16 players. However, unlike Sri Lanka, India selected KS Bharat and Shahbaz Ahmed in place of KL Rahul and Axar Patel respectively. Both KL Rahul and Axar Patel opted out due to personal reasons, and thus we got two new like-to-like replacements.

Apart from the above chances, India dropped Arshdeep Singh, and got in Shardul Thakur in place of him. This was a surprise move even as Arshdeep didn’t do well in the Sri Lanka ODI series, he was the only left-arm pacer in the squad. 

India vs Australia 2023 Official ODI Series Squad for Team India:

Batters: Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav & Virat Kohli

WKs: Ishan Kishan & KL Rahul

All-rounders: Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja & Washington Sundar

Bowlers: Jaydev Unadkat, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, Umran Malik & Yuzvendra Chahal

Finally, for the Australia ODI series, Team India went full force, and selected a squad of 18 players. The squad saw the addition of Ravindra Jadeja and Jaydev Unadkat as the new members. Similarly, KL Rahul and Axar Patel returned to the squad in place of KS Bharat and Shahbaz Ahmed respectively. 

So, that’s about the squad list for the last three ODI series for Team India. BCCI will be naming the 2023 ODI series squad vs West Indies soon, and with Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul expected to miss, we should see at least a couple of new members in the squad; mostly with IPL 2023 acting as an influencer.
